During 1950s-1980s Poland’s greatest artists designed posters to promote the state-owned cultural output. This included film posters, music posters, theatre posters, opera posters, exhibition posters, tourism posters and circus posters (cyrk).

What is the Polish School of Posters?
The Polish School of Posters is the term used to describe the post war explosion of truly original and ground-breaking poster design which emerged from Soviet controlled Poland.
The Communist Ministry of Arts and Culture commissioned the country’s most talented and highly trained artists to produce posters to promote their state-run cultural and arts programmes.
Despite living under strict rules and repression, the artists enjoyed great creative freedom without the commercial restraints of their Western contemporaries…

The work of the Polish School of Poster artists won international awards and is held in major art museums around the world, but the artists themselves remain relatively unknown. We are passionate about promoting their work and helping to preserve their legacy.
