Polish A1 size: 58 × 83.5 cm

Jerzy Flisak

Jerzy Flisak was one of the greatest artists from the Polish School of Posters. He was an illustrator and artist who became known for his satirical drawings.

He graduated in architecture from the Warsaw University of Technology.  He made his drawing debut in 1950, still as a student, in the competition organized by the weekly magazine Szpilki, where later he became its graphic editor. And he started designing film posters in 1955. He was incredibly creative and worked in many mediums; as well as designing posters he illustrated many book covers as well as working in set design and fifteen animated films. One of the animated characters he created was an adventurous little dog called Bobik.

His illustrative style is diverse but most often it is charmingly naive. And, when combined with his sense of humour, and an immense eye for colour, it is very effective. He has created some of the most iconic and collectible works of the Polish School of Posters, won many awards, and exhibited in museums around the world. His work is held in some of the world’s greatest art museums including MoMa and the V&A.

We are huge fans of Jerzy Flisak at Projekt 26.

BUYING A VINTAGE POSTER

All of our vintage Polish posters are lovingly sourced from Poland and were the original editions commissioned by the Communist State to promote cultural events. Polish posters were printed in strictly limited runs to be displayed in town centres, theatres and cinemas - so any which survive have been lovingly rescued along the way.

For us, nothing comes close to the soulful charm of vintage Polish posters; the colours, the offset lithography, the matt paper. But please note, due to their age, many do bear marks of time.

We always do our best to describe any flaws, but if you have any questions at all about this vintage poster then get in touch and we’ll be happy to send you more info.
