This spectacular poster is a very rare and beautiful find. It was designed by one of the founding fathers of the Polish School of Posters Jan Lenica in 1962 for the Roman Polanski film ‘Knife on the Water’ (Noz w Wodzie).

The psychological thriller short was Roman Polanski’s debut release and his only Polish language film. It was highly regarded by viewers and critics. As MoMa says “Noz w wodzie (Knife in the Water)—his thesis film at the famous Lodz film school, which was selected for the first New York Film Festival, was nominated for an Oscar, and is probably the best student film ever made”.

Polish A1 size: 58.5 x 83.5 cm

Condition: The condition is good to very good considering the poster’s age. Please note it has been previously folded, which was the standard way posters were stored. The folds are not obvious but it would be possible to arrange for linen backing if you wanted to minimise the appearance.

BUYING A VINTAGE POSTER

All of our vintage Polish posters are lovingly sourced from Poland and were the original editions commissioned by the Communist State to promote cultural events. Polish posters were printed in strictly limited runs to be displayed in town centres, theatres and cinemas - so any which survive have been lovingly rescued along the way.

For us, nothing comes close to the soulful charm of vintage Polish posters; the colours, the offset lithography, the matt paper. But please note, due to their age, many do bear marks of time.

We always do our best to describe any flaws, but if you have any questions at all about this vintage poster then get in touch and we’ll be happy to send you more info.
